I had bought a Haier small (7cf) chest freezer a couple years ago.

Freezer quite cooling. Basically the compressor still worked but it would not cool thus demonstrating that the coolant lines had a leak somewhere and all the coolant had escaped. The system has a 5 year manufacturer warranty on it.

Called the company and they said they did not have a repair person in our area but they would get back to me.

1 week later no word so I called again and they were “Checking on it”

1 week later no word so I called again and got a response that since they don’t have a repair person then I am on my own to find someone to repair it.

Called a local repair person (which was a slow process and hard to get a hold of as well but a separate issue) which he said the freezer is a sealed system and that in order to find the part and replace the part that was leaking you would basically destroy the freezer. It is not something that you can just open a panel, replace a part and put back together. The coolant lines are embedded into the foam insulation in the side panels.

Called the company again and talked to the warranty department and they were like a broken record on a brick wall stating it is a 5 year warranty on parts not on replacement. I tried to explain the situation but to no avail. They obviously had no idea how their product worked or what it meant by a “Sealed System”. You simply can’t replace broken parts on this unit which basically then means they have no warranty at all.

I then shuffled around their phone system until I found a technician which he said yes the machine can not be repaired it has to be replaced but that would have to be done by the warranty department. I had him place a statement to the same effect in their notes for my ticket number.

Back to the warranty department I go to explain their policy to them. They “Had to talk to their manager” and finally returned and said they could replace it for a pro-rated amount. This means they determine depreciation of the unit and I get a new one for a reduced price. I wasn’t thrilled with this result but figured I would try to go forward anyway. They then asked when and where I bought it (Menards in Grand Forks, ND July 2006). They then asked if I had my receipt. I did not and they said “well then we can’t help you”. “They should have told you that before” (a month + earlier on my first call). I said it is stamped on the machine the date it was manufactured (4/30/2006). So even if I bought it the same day it was manufactured it is still under warranty for almost another 3 years from now. I would even be willing to use the manufacture date for the depreciation date. They said that is “their policy”. I said “who is you manager”? I got shuffled around to the corporate office and talked to someone who said they would have to have their manager review the case and decide if they will accept the warranty without a receipt but also reminded me that it would cost me whatever they valued the depreciation at. He said the manager would get back to me later that day. I left a home and cell number to make sure I would not miss the call.

1 week later still no word.

I was tiered of dealing with a company that tries so hard to find any excuse not to honor a warranty. They didn’t give me a price but I assume they would consider depreciation pretty heavy in the first couple years and if I did get a new one for whatever cost then I could be in the same situation in another 2 years. Also do I really want a product from such a poor quality company and do I want to give them any more money even at a reduced rate? The answer was a big NO! Never buying another product from Haier.

The following video link was my resolution to fixing their product:

I went to Sears and bought a Kenmore.

Location: Devils Lake, North Dakota

i believe most 5 year sealed systems warranties you normally are responsible for getting the servicer. its a 5 years parts warranty warranty genius, no labor.

hence sending service when service is your responsibility is not the warranty! FYI

I purchased online a new Haier 45 pt. dehumidifier on May 31, 2010.

It stopped removing moisture from the air in August 2011. I called Haier America who asked me to take ti to a specific repair service that was nearly 30 miles from my house. It cost me $25.00 to have them looking at it. They said it is a sealed unit.

The parts are not replaceable. Nearly two months of wasted calls to Haier without any results. Finally they have agreed to replace the unit for $50.00 if I send them the cord and serial number but the unit will only have a 30 day warrenty. So it will cost me a total of &75.00 for a unit that only cost me $100.00 brand new on ebay.

Don't buy from this company. Their warrentees are worthless.

I will be reporting them to the Attorny General's Office of Ct. and New York.

The gentleman at the top of this list that posted the video of a burning freezer. I hope the EPA does to you what they would do to me (since I own and operate an Appliance Repair business), i would get fined $1,000 per for every coolant violation.

Just because your unit had LEAKED the coolant there was still some in the unit. Therefore I HOPE YOU GET FINED!!!!

I have have the same frustration from all of the posters as well.

I have gotten the runaround bo over a month on replacing a compressor (5y warranty).

Every excuse under the sun. I have sent in paperwork multiple times, can't even count how many times I've called and received no response or they will call back (never).

Buut my last conversation they told me the part is no longer available but I could buy a new appliance at a discounted rate.

I immediately called the parts dept and they had the parts in stock. When I called back the warranty dept they said they have to submit the paperwork again to Corporate.

Bottom line: I'll never buy Haier again.

I bought a microwave / refrigerator set less than a year ago.

The timer on the microwave will not work if you set it past 2 minutes.

The refrigerator just stopped cooling.

I contacted Haier America, Their excuse for not warranting my purchase was that I use it at work, not at home.

Well, I bought an AC last August and used it only a few times. Then I stored it as recommended over the winter.

When I installed it again to my window this summer I realized that it was not cooling the apartment at all! I contacted with the warranty office and they assured me that the unit will be replaced 10-15 days after I send the required documents. I did as said and they confirmed the receipt of the documents. It will be 25 days!

I keep calling and asking for the reason but nobody gives me any information. They keep asking me to call back later.

Low quality product and horrible warranty service. Do not buy Haier!

Since posting this article, Haier cooperate office contacted me (a month later) with an apology. They said they would now replace the freezer.

I declined since I already bought another unit. Instead they offered to refund the unit for recommended retail value which I appreciate.

I will give them credit for finally having good customer service although it should not take this much effort to get good service. I hope their service department will look into better policies in the future.
